Blackpool v Ipswich Official Matchday Thread 10.10.20

I’m holding my hands up right now and admitting that I might have been wrong and this is a shit show and the Critchley appointment looks like it’s a smart arse trendy thing to have done and is an experiment which is backfiring massively.
I hope not but we just lack nous and know how.
Fair play least you are honest

Both full-backs are not match fit.
Turton isn't a centre-half but we have replacements.
Too lightweight in midfield. Robson has the inevitable booking so may come off. I have no idea what Ward brings to the team.
Yates and Madine haven't had any service although Madine looks a bit wishy-washy to me for a bloke of his stature. Hamilton gets into some nice positions moving across the centre but just doesn't connect with the ball.

Not actually the worst half of football ever though but they need a response.

Agree with the full backs. Gabriel looked really good Tuesday but he's been short here and Garbutt looks like a good player who ain't played for ages.

Quitter.

It’s turning into a piece of piss playing against us.

Step one. Mark CJ out of the game

Step two. Flood the midfield

Simple.
Get Feeney & Delfounso on.

Ward and Anderson very quiet for me.Absent in defence and doing nothing going forward. Both full backs have been found wanting in defence also.

Jesus, where do you start with that half.

Not even playing nice stuff, just poor all round.

Maxwell has just watched 2 go past him, suddenly looking that bit too small that you worried when he came in.

Gabriel is playing like he had 15 pints last night and turton isn't a league one centre half.

Ballard and the Icelandic fella need to be good or we're knackered.

In some ways though our centre backs have a thankless task as the full backs push on and there's noone in midfield shielding or able to put a foot in.

Too much short passing going nowhere in midfield and still not a single leader on the pitch. We're desperate for a tall destroyer type midfielder to shield and tackle and cut out balls over the top.

Most players go from a jog to a sprint when the pick up speed, Gary goals goes from a statue to a stroll, hes been given a chance and just doesn't look interested.

Yates and Hamilton barely been involved.

Cricthley might be a good coach but there's no leadership coming from the touchline. He's got his mate in from youth football as assistant instead of a proper experienced number 2. Theres also ko leadership on the pitch, as shown by fact our goalkeeper is captain.

I want it to work but that was disgraceful and i have little confidence crithley knows how to change it or what to do here. Ipswich have scored from almost every chance they've had but we just don't look like we will ever score. So so frustrating.

Can't wait for williams and lubala to come on and both plod around offering nothing.

If I was in the ground I'd probably already be in the pub now but somehow it feels more difficult to switch the laptop off than leave the ground!

Oh, and obviously we didnt need charlie... who offers almost everything we're lacking on his own.

Started ok but completely lost the plot. We probably can’t get any points here, but we need a performance for 45 minutes just to stop the rot. Can’t understand Mitchell out of the team and I feel sorry for Turton, gives 100% and plays wherever he’s told but hard on him. He did ok aside from not getting close enough for the third goal but I find it hard to put much blame on him. Gabriel having a shocker. Robson needs to stop fouling quickly or it’ll be 10 men as well.
Not getting close enough? He stood there waving his arms around like a tool, he only moved when the striker was on top of him. Shocking

I blame most of this on the midfield. Not strong enough to win the ball, leaving the defence exposed. Not strong enough to create any chances, no opportunities for the striker.

No, I'm not trying to be a smart arse but I've never rated Maxwell. We kept the wrong keeper.
Yates - I've reached a decision. No! I don't care where he's been but a striker trying to play one-two touches out on the left wing. Why? Not good enough.
Madine - done what he could with little supply. No problem with him.
Ekpiteta - too cautious. Not good enough at this level.
Robson - should be off. Definitely went in on the ankle with his studs - no great loss.
Hamilton - this season's Gnands. All attacking balls over to him on the right. We'll marshalled. Pointless.
I'm losing the will to live here.

Well the clamour for new defenders, to play Madine, to move Robson into a more attacking position seems to have abated somewhat
So. We get rid of Critch, sell all of his signings get injust WHO to manage us and where exactly does that leave us? Back at sqiare one by my reckonings
Get Bez on.....
He will make the difference

To add insult to injury, my password for ifollow wouldn't work, so I've paid another tenner to watch this crap.

It's a real worry and if it carries on for another 4 or 5 games then Critchley could be the first managerial casualty in the division.

Its been a tough baptism for SS and I have no doubt he was expecting the club to be settling down by now, not one manager down and another looking like a rabbit in the headlights. You have to call into question the advice he is getting from those around him, because they seem to be absolutely useless. He has backed his manager 100% but if he has bought in the wrong players with far too little experience he is going to be stuck with them now for 2 or 3 seasons. It's okay doing well in meaningless friendlies, but when it counts against big strong teams, full of older heads than it was always going to be a gamble.

I hope NC can turn it round, but for me he has bought in far too much youth and inexperience and he can' do a thing to change it now. Very disappointing and I feel for Sadler.

Their manager has done his homework has ours? Lambert seems to have identified the threat of Hamilton and has nullified it. Is their anything to identify what we have done to curtail their threat?

We are about to witness the greatest comeback ever seen, well one of the most unlikely. 5 goals without reply from pool to follow.... to give us a stomping victory 👌

Worrying stuff. Ipswich absolutely rock-solid, mistake-free stuff. We look like a team of kids.

Worst time to play them and it's still early days. But there are 0 good signs about where this team can go. The team is everything you don't want your team to be. Shambolic at the back, completely unable to create a decent chance at the other end.

This squad is not this bad.

Madine is useless and I can’t understand his selection, as it’s meant we have no link between the striker and midfield. It does smack of desperation and panic by NC.

I’m happy to support NC if he has a philosophy that he sticks to, but he hasn’t. We’ve gone long all game, bypassing midfield, so the same as last season, but without Gnando.
Results and performances say otherwise.

I don’t think calling for Critchley to be sacked is going to achieve much. We are shit yes, we aren’t getting any better agreed, however Sadler hasn’t got bottomless pockets. It cost him a substantial sum to sack Grayson, the same would apply to Critchley and most pertinently most of these players are on 3 year contracts. Starting again would not be financially viable, so I think unfortunately it’s going to be a long hard season.😬

Well this isn't the improvement I was hoping for, in fact it is pretty much a backwards step across the whole team. I'm not even sure how I'd turn this around cos from looking at body language and effort nobody in the pitch seems up for it. So even a bit of half time rollicking feels unlikely to help.

I know I said mid week we'd see more defeats yet but I wasn't thinking they'd be ones where the players just ran up a white flag and sulked. There is a minimum acceptable level of effort that none of the starting XI have met.

To add insult to injury, my password for ifollow wouldn't work, so I've paid another tenner to watch this crap.
My lad st holder went thru the usual process, entered his ifollow code but he's been charged and a tenner taken out of account.

This team has absolutely no aggression in it at all. None. We have 11 Elliott Grandins on the pitch. Dreadful.

Can someone tell Ward and Anderson that it's ok to make a run beyond the defence? They're just stood, static and playing in front of their defenders. We can play this way for hours and we won't score. You cannot play three in the centre and not have any of them taking a chance to make runs. We need different to Ward and Anderson, they're too alike.
Grandin had awareness and ability. This lot don't.

Ok we won't attribute us losing being the fault of clueless Critchley...........
you didn’t say that, you attributed our demise to Lamberts management, that’s garbage, they have been poor , just not as poor as us, three shots three goals from garbage mistakes. Lambert is some manager if he’s forcing professional footballers on the opposition to make mistakes that lead to goals. He hasn’t managed this lead, we have handed i5 to them. It’s quite different.

I hope not but we just lack nous and know how.
From his very first interview I immediately thought why are we going here and not Ian Evatt??
We are where we are, he'll get 3/4 more games (to be fair) but if things don't improve immediately he must go.

They are strong in central midfield

We are not, they have midfield players on the bench like Nolan who would walk into our team

Said it weeks ago Keshi and Ward ARE NOT central midfield players
