Blackpool v Bristol Rovers Official Matchday Thread 09.05.21

What a great finish to the League programme. I'm actually crying tears of joy and just wish I could have been in the ground watching today.

WELL DONE THE PLAYERS, WELL DONE CRITCH, WELL DONE THE SUPPORT STAFF, WELL DONE THE BACKROOM STAFF AND THE GROUNDSMAN, WELL DONE TO THE DIRECTORS AND OF COURSE A BIG THANK YOU AND WELL DONE SIR TO BLACKPOOL'S NUMBER ONE FAN SIMON SADDLER.

Another good win and clean sheet. Congratulations to Simon Sadler, the board, Neil Critchley, the coaching team and players. A terrific season and a chance to reach the Championship via the Play Offs.

Oxford will be a tough challenge, I would have preferred Portsmouth in honesty but feel we have the team to beat anyone. With only the long term injuries we go into the semi finals with a strong team, form and confidence, hopefully we can do the business again.

I’ll second that, we are very, very grateful.

Got the job done. Hopefully no injuries.

Stuart Moore, apart from one footwork wobble, didn't do himself any harm. Made some really good saves there.

How to stop the Oxford goal machine next.
If our goalie and defence can play with the commitment they showed away at Sunderland we'll be hard to beat.

It's a big step up from youth football. I think today was exactly the right time to give him a start, although you could tell the difference when Simms came on.
At that age his growth in experience will be more than matched by his growth as a man. I hope we keep him on.

I’m not bothered that we have to meet Oxford at all. We have a great team and players coming back from injuries. We won’t have 8 first teasers out in 10 days hopefully. Lose 1-0 at Oxford win 3-1 at home job done and onto Wembley we gooooooooi

Let's face it the play offs are a lottery - 1 mistake, a glaring miss, or conversely 1 moment of quality or even pure luck, can make the difference. That said Blackpool are a quality team with an excellent track record after the first 7 or 8 games, so the outlook is promising. Stop worrying about Oxford or anyone else for that matter, and focus on the strengths that we have!

Good luck in the pray offs guys, always had a soft spot for Pool after our 1990 title clincher, and the Holloway connection. Hope you smash Oxford so I can see Matty Taylor in tears...again.
What do you make of Joey Barton, BRFC? Two points above relegation when he took over in late Feb, effectively -11 by the end. Was he right to just publicly give up on the full squad? Your players hadn't downed tools yesterday but not having a Taylor or Clarke-Harris (or any striker) up front obviously stood out.

Linked with Paul Mullin from Cambridge today I think which wouldn't be a bad start for a league two rebuild.

Barton has certainly split the fanbase here thats for sure! It doesn't usually end well when a club has 3 different managers in 1 season.
I'm personally confident he will get players in that will give us a proper team next season. He has called out a lot of things wrong at the club on and off the pitch including recruitment which apparently he will oversee himself now.
Our best outfield player (Nicholson) has been out for a while which never helps, and the 2nd best player is a Chelsea loanee.
We also had a few playing yesterday who aren't 1st team regulars including a 17 year old keeper making his debut.
I've no qualms about relegation, it was fully deserved. We have been awful from start to finish and Barton was on a hiding to nothing really especially as we played Tues-Sat for a long period with no real time on the training ground to work on them. Going into the season with 3 forwards, two of which had not played league football, was always asking for trouble. We almost had Jayden Stockley in Jan but he opted for Charlton not surprisingly.
Mullins I dont know much about but he has been banded around on our forum too along with McEleney. Id prefer the latter tbh.

He sounds committed to making a positive difference in time so I suppose that's something. Probably better off if he's doing it all himself and then he's only got himself to get angry with if it goes wrong! Good luck for the next season ahead. I suppose you just want to fast forward ahead to Sept/Oct now where you've won four or five in a row with a new team and things are looking up.

Apparently he is already close to agreeing deals with 3 new players, and before yesterdays game told a few of the non-playing players they had no future at the club, so our new season has already started.
Good luck again in the play offs, always nerve wracking affairs but I bet you wouldn't have dreamt of making them after that defeat at the Mem in Jan. Quite a turnaround!!

Thought your young lads did OK. Keeper was impressive. Concentrate on getting back up straight away. Good luck.

It will end in tears Barton is a horrible twunt sack him
And get Holloway he won’t be able to resist.

The frustrating matter with Holloway is that he could have succeeded as much as at Blackpool as other Clubs - I was actually very disappointed at his appointment as he literally choked the life out of a very good Plymouth team to run off to Leicester where he was a disaster, had done really well at QPR band at BR but just wouldn’t be patient - grass is always greener type of character

mentally, I thought he was suspect in terms of inner belief himself at times. charismatically, probably the best Manager I have seen at Blackpool - he gave massive inspiration to average players, youngsters and fans - quite a revolutionary in his way and maybe should have enjoyed more success at other Clubs but he did have the self implode button and could quite easily lose his emotion

all in all thanks for nuturing him for us

I wish he’d still been manager when we were in the Rolls C of Appeal hearing punching the air as justice was dished out - he might have been an interesting witness too 👍⚽
good luck to The Gas
Camberwell
Ps a good golf friend of mine Nigel Parkinson is a long in the tooth BR fan and tells great stories of Warboys et al from the 70’s - the FA Cup win at Old T etc
