Blackpool v Bristol Rovers Official Matchday Thread 09.05.21

Brilliant! What a season.

Bring on the O's. We should fear nobody. Just keep grinding it out as we do so well.

Good to finish with a win. A fit and firing Simms & Yates essential to our play off chances. Oxford will be a tough one, but no easy games now. Up the Pool.

First time we’ve gone into the play offs where I’ve actually felt confident, not sure if I like it

Given the start to the season we had it’s an incredible season and achievement to finish third, massive credit to everyone at the club. Going into the play offs on the back of good form. Let’s do this! 🧡

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Fabulous effort to finish third. Some good sides in this league and We shouldn’t be scared of anyone in the POs.

Got the job done. Hopefully no injuries.

Stuart Moore, apart from one footwork wobble, didn't do himself any harm. Made some really good saves there.

How to stop the Oxford goal machine next.
Bit of a mare landing them in the semis - them sneaking into the semis. Possibly favourites now. Tough game down there now.

Good to get the win and rest one or two key figures and give some minutes to those coming back.

However, there's was enough out there that it shouldn't really have been them pressing for the equaliser near the end, it wasn't conclusively put to bed to only sneak past the bottom relegated side.

Lack of goals is still a slight concern especially if we are against free scoring oxford who have shown no such issues.

However, good defensive record and with the main men back up front there's definitely a chance at more goals.

The only issue is we do need more goals from other areas and as shown today they don't happen much...

I wonder if Oxfords experience of playoff heartache with benefit of hinder them...?

Job done, and that midfield could work if Ward and Kaikai are unavailable.
Hopefully Maxwell, Yates, Turton and Ballard will get back into the starting line up.
Would much rather we were playing Portsmouth or Charlton than Oxford, but at least we are going in on a real high, and at home for the second leg, and with a few more options available than looked likely a couple of weeks ago.

I’m glad we didn’t score a hatful today.I was thinking about that all week.Id rather we didn’t blow our load today and stepped it gradually as we go through this next set of games. the game went exactly how I had hoped.Critch actually surprised me with some of the changes he made for today but probably sensible ones.

In all our successful playoff campaigns have we ever been in them as the highest team?

Oxford being given rave reviews on Sky just now.

not one of our most convincing performances, but giving a run out to some players who have been injured and giving a rest to first choices still did enough.

Roll on Oxford.

Have to say I thought the goalie did really well after a shaky start. Made some great saves.
Yeah shouldn't really have been made to make so many though, we should have been out of sight.

That said the missing players of Yates, Kaiaki, Simms for a lot of it, Garbutt.

Thats a huge amount of goal threat missing there.

Players that will be key in these playoffs and should be fresh now.

Decent performance, but not much goal threat. Unfortunately, the likes of Anderson, Mitchell, Embleton and Holmes(at this level) aren't known for scoring goals. Oxford into play off position.
How can you comment about Holmes, we've not seen him play a game yet. Agree the others don't score many.

Going in to the play offs on the back of four straight wins without conceding a goal. There's no reason why we shouldn't be confident against anyone.

Today, we did the job without ever really exerting ourselves. We looked much more shaky at the back than normal, and to be honest I thought Stewart was poor; careless and played like he'd just got out of bed. Ekpiteta didn't look his usual self either but these are players that have been out for quite a while so it's to be expected.

We managed to deservedly win without at least half a dozen who would be 100% starters, so that bodes well.
80 points, clear third place and the best defensive record in the division. It's been an excellent season, which *could* get better.

So it’s Oxford v pool Tuesday 18th 6pm kick off then pool v Oxford Friday 21st kick off 7.45pm. All subject to change 👍👍👍👍
