Blackpool v Bristol Rovers Official Matchday Thread 09.05.21

Barton after they were relegated said he wishes he could send them away now, now in his presser before the game he's said he hasn't even had training with them this week so they can get over the relegation and not focus on it.

With that in mind, including the fact they've only taken 4 points from their last 33 AND including the fact the last time they won away was the 5th December.. it's setting up perfectly for:
Blackpool 0 - 1 Bristol Rovers

Should be a routine win assuming we play the right system 3-5-2. Rovers players' minds will probably be on their holidays to Western Super Mare, so it could have the air of a pre-season friendly about it. I don't think we should make too many changes though as maintaining the winning habit is crucial at this stage of the season. If we go 2 up then rotate. I also think the fact a win would guarantee third is another reason to play close to a first choice starting 11...

Don't think Barton will be there much longer, in fact, if we give them a shellacking he could be down the Job Centre on Monday morning.

Agree. The owners of Bristol Rovers keep sacking managers but they can only work with the players they have and it looks like they are no good enough. Stick with your manager through rough times and you get your reward like Us and Man U

But we don't do routine wins - except Donny, who didn't look interested (apart from the keeper).
It could be a bore draw, it could be a tight one-niller or Turton could get a hat-trick in a feast of 'Pool showboating.

Not sure we've a bad record against lower sides a 1-0 bore will do for me.

Four bottom teams record against 4 wins 3 losses.

Gonna break a habit of predicting 0-0. 1-0 pool With at least 1 Red card.

Maxwell
Turton Ekpeteta Ballard Garbutt
Apter Stewart Dougall Mitchell
Simms Holmes

give guys game time, and give starts to the promising youngsters

According to the Bristol Evening Post , Rovers have several players out injured and a 17 year old keeper is set to make his debut.

I would "rest" Ballard, Dougall and Yates. All 3 are automatic choices in our best X1, have played every match for past several weeks and we can't risk them getting injured in a match with little meaning. Would bring in Ekpiteta, Stewart and Holmes and give Anderson half an hour off the bench.
This team is still more than good enough to beat Bristol Rovers.

I’m really looking forward to the game, obviously I want the win securing 3rd position which I’m sure most Seasiders would have taken at the start of the season. It would be fantastic keeping another clean sheet and securing a 4th victory on the bounce into the playoffs! Come on the Pool and In Critch we Trust 🧡

As I've said previously, third, fourth or fifth doesn't matter. We've been as good if not better away and in 2010 no-one thought our slender home lead would be enough.
A lot of conjecture who'll we'll get in the semis, who we'll rest, who will or won't be fit. Let's just sit back today and relax.
The only thing I want is that we suffer no further injuries

Pointless giving anyone a game, who "realistically" will not have a part in the play-offs. Some who may have a part to play and are in need of game time should be in from the start. This would include Ekpiteta, Stewart, and Mitchell, but not the likes of Apter and Holmes unless the unavailability of players such as Ward, Robson and Madine looks likely. Surely NC will have a pretty good idea what's what by now though.

Apparently there’s going to be a surprise name on the team sheet according to Matt scrafton in the gazette. Hmmmmmm

Quite happy with that. Give Moore some game time in case he's needed, give game time to those returning from injury, and then rest others where possible. 👍
