We have eight players with just one year remaining on their contracts (assuming the optional extensions for Husband and Carey are activated), so we have some big decisions to make to either cash in, offer new contracts or let them run down and leave for free next year.
I would do the following...
Grimshaw = Cash in - I don't think he would accept a new contract as he would be expecting a salary raise above our level. I'd cash in now as there are plenty of good keepers out there who would take wages within our budget.
Pennington = Cash in - for exactly the same reason as Grimshaw.
Husband = Let him run down his contract - trigger the option one-year extension and utilise him as a squad player. No value in selling him.
Dom Thompson = sell / give away for free - not good enough.
J L-Gabriel = Cash in - all signs are pointing towards his exit. Hopefully salvage back a bit of the big fee we paid for him.
Norburn = Let him run down his contract - simply because there is no selling value and we will need squad players. I personally don't think he is good enough and is a card magnet. Our win percentage in the games he started was only 31%, when our total win percentage in all comps was 49% (29 wins from 59 matches).
Carey = offer new contract - there is a good player in there somewhere that we have seen flashes of. Only 23 so best years ahead of him.
Beesley = Cash in - He may have scored 12 goals in all comps, however I don't think he will top that for us and isn't good enough to fire us to promotion. I'd sell him and put the funds towards signing a 20 goal a season striker.
This would obviously mean a massive recruitment job would be required.
We'd need to bring in 2 x GK, 3 x CB, 1 x LB, 2 x RB, 2 x CM, 2 x Wingers, 1 x AM and 2 x ST.
