Ballard or Greta for left CB?

Greta for me. We were excellent at the back with him and Marv in tandem. Ballard is really trying to budge Marv when they are all fit - though they never are. 🤓

Another Q is whether you drop Thorniley for Ballard?!

The Viking` s wife is expecting another child very soon , hopefully lack of sleep won`t affect his concentration levels when he returns to fitness !!

I asked the same question yesterday on another thread and I don't know the answer.
I agree with Founts we are better with a leftie CB. Thorniley hasn't let us down in the last two and in fact is very comfortable on the ball possibly the best "ball player" of all the CBs.
Ballard is probably a bit stronger and certainly quicker than Thornley.
Gretarsson is the most experienced and is definitely Mr Cool.
Finally Ekpiteta is the tallest of the CBs and we certainly need his aerial dominance. He's pretty much undroppable at the moment. He's come on leaps and bounds since the first few games of the season and is my player of the season so far.

Marv and Greta as centre partnership as they’re our players and shouldn’t be seen to be leaving at the end of the season. Would prefer to see Ballard slot in a back three with Gabriel and Garbutt being the wide men in a midfield five. Gives us 3 5 2 when in possession and 5 3 2 when on the back foot.

Yeah and I'd have Dougall as the daughter in midfield, and Madine as the dodgy uncle up front.

I think Ballard walks in, but I'd leave Thorniley there until there's real excuse to change.
Agreed. It's about the principal of earning the shirt and that's really important I think. Motivation and attitude will define whether we make the play offs or not and players fighting for the shirt (or to retain it) matters.

I also agree with the promote out own unless reason to do otherwise philosophy...

So does Ballard walk in or not? 🤓

Obviously TD53 is more than capable of answering for himself but I believe in the principle of keeping the shirt if you don't make a mistake.
So Thorniley stays for now.
Like many others the possibility of playing a back 3 attracts me.
We certainly have the right pieces of the jigsaw to do that but it might be harder to complete the puzzle.
Good problems to have though once everyones fit.

aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh! 3 at the back. Nooooooo.

I think Jordan Thorniley has a great left peg and a superb passer of the ball and can read a game. However there is a mistake in Jordan and he lacks pace. However he has earned the shirt. Danny Ballard will be a top international and Premier League star but it will be good for him to graft and win back the shirt. What a privilege to have 4 top class centre backs.

Answer the bloody question! 🤣

Just been watching a debate between my favourite leftie Owen Jones and Kehinde Andrews who thinks white people are all racist. I came on this board for a bit of sanity voyeur!!!

It’s a tough call, think I would go with Ballard if he is up to speed against Ipswich

We did a piece on this a few weeks back.

We win more games with Gretarsson in the side.

Assuming 4 at the back remains (I have my doubts) which would be your choice?

Tin hat here but I'd go for the left footed Greta. I really worry about the ball and/or man going between the LB and LCB, both are going with the wrong foot.
Gretarson is the best on the left side of a cetral pair, for me. But personally prefer Gretarson, Marv and Ballard as a 3, Garbutt and Gabriel or Turton as wing backs.
Stewart and Dougall in midfield Yates and Madine up top, then either Kai kai as a number 10 or Virtue as an attacking mid with other options the new lad and apter?
Just gets awkward when Cj is fit.

Great Post 👏👏👏

In the cold light of day, when picking a side to face Ipswich, Critch has to decide which defensive selection will fair best against the side that beat us 4-1 at Bloomfield. They had a lot of joy on the flanks, so the full back decisions are inpórtant too. Thorniley or Ballard is a tough call, I'm not sure about the keeping the shirt thing. Horses for courses too.

My Son was telling me about the points per game stats for both of these players ,
Grettarsson :- 2.5 points per game.
Ballard :- 1.2 points per game.
so in my humble opinion, I would have to go with the Viking !

Ekpiteta and Ballard are our two best CBs. Gretarsson unlucky to be left out. Thorniley will probably be out of the team at the first opportunity and I think Ballard will take over.

If your picking for the best right side central defender Gretarson come third, if your picking the best left sided central defender he’s first choice for me.

I think Gretarsson is better as a left CB than Ballard. Ballard is unlucky really - his best position is taken by Marv.
I don't think it matters in the slightest whether a centre back is left footed or right footed. And I don't understand why so many on here seem to think it's important to have a left footed centre back.

I think it's super dodgy ground to drop a guy who's been apart of two clean sheets and barely put a foot wrong.

Same back four please this weekend.

I just said I think Gretarsson is a better left CB than Ballard. That's all, I didn't get involved in which foot does what, 🤓

Both are CB's - you have to go with your strongest players and, for me, Thorniley has played against very weak opposition, and we need to up our game on Saturday.
