All these new signing and still some on here are negative about the season ahead!

Go on then who were Glass half full ,or glass half empty ,and now are changing their mind set .
Me , always thought my glass was half empty , but never felt so positive with the future of my beloved football team in my life .
Now my cup Runners over (glass full ).šŸ‘.

I think Critchley is building a half-decent squad which, when supplemented with 2 or 3 quality loanees), will do very well this coming season. Can't wait!!!

I am delighted with the signings showing a wonderful sense of direction. Compare that with broken fax machines. What excites me is that this is merely the first stage in the complete transformation of our club. So much to look forward to.

Iā€™ll be honest and be surprised if we are promotion contenders like some seem to expect.
We have signed players who either couldnā€™t even get a game in league 1 last season or (according to their old clubs fans) inconsistent league 2 players who, granted, have potential with a manager who probably isnā€™t the most knowledgable (compared to others) when it comes to league 1 football.
Donā€™t get me wrong I hope it comes off but Iā€™m prepared to be patient with this and I hope others are too if this doesnā€™t go to plan straight away.

ā€œknees like a soggy digestiveā€ arenā€™t comments that fill me with confidence. Iā€™m cautiously optimistic of improvement over time.

I am really looking forward to the new season. There can be no certainties at this time but I feel optimistic that we have an exciting young manager whom has brought in some young hungry prospects rather than players at the end of their careers. I am also looking forward to see if Critchley can help develop players such as Virtue, Nuttal, Kaikai, Howe and Thorniley as I think he can.

i think we will play attractive football thats pleasing on the eye weather all the new players can gel together to be a real force in the division is yet to be seen all credit to the chairman for backing the manager in very uncertain times

As we've gone with a player recruitment expertise model then you'd imagine the majority of our signing were players whose potential was as yet untapped. If we were going to go out and buy the best players at our level then you wouldn't need that sort of scouting set up - You'd just look at the PFA team of the year and top scorers and assists chart and go and get them.

Whilst I often moan about Liverpool - I just don't like them! - they have doubtless made some very clever signings and players who are now regarded as club legends and have won the highest honours in the game at the time had their fans going 'ffs, why are we buying Hull City players (Robertson) and midtable Newcastle cast offs... (Wijnaldum) if he can't do it week in week out for Newcastle, how is he going to do it at our level? Not to mention 'past it' Milner who was discarded by the club they were trying to catch.

I'm not saying it WILL work and I agree with caution to an extent that I'm happy with progress, a better style and I agree that we're a lg 1 Van Dijk and a Henderson (though, that *could* be Virtue) away from having a convincing promotion winning side but I'm excited in that we do seem to be *thinking* about what we do and each player that comes in seems to have some technical/footballing class or pace and trickery.

I think the OP is a load of old pony, to be honest.

This is a time of year when almost all football fans are positive, it's in the nature of things. But I think there are lots of unanswered questions about how we will play, whether the new signings can make the step up, as well as how our rookie manager will cope with doing the top job for real.

I quite like the look of our recruitment in that it looks like we are going for a certain type of player, and investing in youth too. But they still have to do it on the pitch, and this looks like being a tough, unforgiving League again.

Ordinarily, I would have seen this as the year for a nailed-on promotion push, but in the current environment none of us have a clue how well we will adjust in absolute and relative terms. And I doubt we will have much more of a clue for a while yet. So being cautious at this stage is just sensible, rather than a character deficiency in the way that the OP was suggesting.
