3pm footy on telly

3pm blackout outdated?

Just got sent this article written by a friend. Discussing whether 3pm TV blackouts are outdated.
Not sure where I stand personally but interesting article
Fine for the Premier League who don't rely on gate money, but it's still a major factor lower down the pyramid.

Anything that keeps the casual punter turning up instead of remaining in their armchair is a good thing.

I think 3PM ST's are good even at this level. For maybe, £250/£300 you get access to all home and away games. There are people who can't get to games for x, y and z reason, or many games and even then they pay again. I'm sure there is someone within a few hundred meters of BR who fall in that category.

As long as it's a set ST price and not matchday purchase, I think you'd get takers ahead of dodgy streams which gives no income to the Club.

Agreed, but there are too many happy to watch illegal streams then moan about lack of investment.

I know. It's difficult and needs looking into.

You'll never stop the illegal streams though and you'll always lose money to them, so why not try to compete and accept the reality?

As a matter of interest, what are the consequences of being caught using an illegal stream?

Jail, fine, how much?

From memory, it comes under the fraud act, section 11.i.e. dishonestly obtaining a service.

It carries a sentence of up to 5 years in prison.

If you are showing it in public i.e. in a pub or bar you will also face the wrath of the Performing Rights Society and maybe lose your licence.

I think 3pm on a Saturday is outdated for kick offs. Should do them at Midday so easier for fans to get back and at least you get some of your afternoon - plus less l electricity.

You get less for murder!

You wouldn’t get in much trouble for watching an illegal stream if any at all, but if you’re the one distributing the illegal stream and you get caught you’d be in a lot of bother
