Rules set to stop other towns 'dumping' people in Blackpool

Blackpool has enough issues to sort out, it doesn't need any more of the countries cast offs.
Another of Thatchers legacies. It was her who allowed this to happen.

Wouldn't really know, was only a kid in the late 80's. She was a strong woman though with backbone.

Anyway, its about time the issue was at least addressed and the council continue the seemingly good work and what sounded a good plan to get the town back on track and more prosperous.

Can't remember where it is but it was posted on here too and was a big pdf of the plans. Was actually ambitious and I hope they pull it off.

The change in tourism left B&B's empty, allowing them to become HMO's was never going to end well.

There should have been wholesale compulsory purchase of entire areas so that better hotels could have been introduced.

Would have required foresight and a willingness to go up against some stuff opposition, but it would have improved the accommodation in Blackpool immeasurably without pricing people out.

'But an inquiry by councillors has found some landlords are taking the extra housing benefit without providing any support for vulnerable residents, and can do this because the system is unregulated.'

Really, how dastardly, who'd have thought they'd do that!

The government needs to invest heavily in Blackpool, and not just the seafront. It's been a magnet for years for people with all kinds of problems, throw in it being a heavily deprived place as are a lot of seaside towns, and you end up with people making money out of vulnerable people whilst the place goes to rack and ruin.

I remember writing about this last year on a thread.
The money paid out for a 'room' or flat in these "Supported Housing" schemes is unbelievable.
Rents of £500 a week are not uncommon....and a half decent conversion of 4 flats can see landlords achieve £6,000 - £8,000 a month for having 1 or 2 people on site earning £8.72 an hour to be there 24 hours to 'oversee' what's going on.

I know someone who's on the 4th location on the Fylde and with 20+ units on (around) £2k a month for each person.....He loves the Council..!!!!

This is long overdue. The resort needs heavy investment in local people and the local communities. To try and get a real pride back in the town which it deserves.

Must be all Tory voting Brexiteers that have been dumped here then, how else would you explain one of the, already, most deprived areas in the Country voting for the likes of Benton and to cut off access to the European Regeneration Fund?

Too many Homos, Brighton had the same problem and changed the local regulations to limit their numbers.

I’d heard they tried to dump them in Preston, but there were no takers 😂😂😂

Heard the phrase 'Cutting your nose off, to spite your face' ?

That's voting Tory and Brexit in Blackpool.

Same happens in St Anne's to some extent, always has been and probably always will be Conservative. I don't think this particular issue is exclusively a Labour thing.

I wonder how many of these two bob landlords who bought all the b and b's in north/south shore, central etc ' converting them into low rent ghettos voted for them communists masquerading as the Labour party.

Left wing cnts the lot of them

To be fair the affordable housing was a great idea and has helped a lot of locals, but the tie in with the likes of Windmill Housing (now bankrupt) was a complete stitch up and money making exercise.

About 30 years ago the Council challenged a ruling by the Ombudsman that they had to house anyone who turned up seeking accommodation, but they lost so an influx started from the bigger cities.

One family who were one of the vulnerable ones brought up on these grants were the Downes from Coventry, so it worked out to be a complete nightmare for them.

There’s an awful lot of empty buildings in London that would solve the crisis. And one huge carbuncle that sits next to the Thames that Guy Fawkes failed in his mission. There must be a lot of rooms not being used.

Not forgetting the number of second homes that belong to MPs and the ridiculous expenses they claim;some of which led to criminal proceedings

Westminster civil servants have made a fortune too with many being able to retire on inflation busting pensions;not so much triple lock but a double bubble trifle with cherries and lots of cream on top.

At least he attends meetings about the Airport.
Blackpool is doing shite Thank you, it's what happens when close all hospitality down for long periods hopefully the bounce will bring it back. 🤞
I voted for them for the first time, think every now and then things need a change anyway.

They had some reasonable plans, with whats happened we havent seen them implemented under normal circumstances. Boris may have made mistakes and at times be a bit of a buffoon but lets face it he's had a tough innings. Brexit to tie up and now an unheard of pandemic.

I think they were the best of a bad bunch, actually willing to move us on from the perpetual nightmare of a democratic vote not being fulfilled and kicked into the long grass.

What was the alternative, Labour, Corbyn with Dianne Abbott and her 10000 police officers paid in monopoly money. Can you imagine her as home secretary, keeping the country safe 😳 😀 doesn't bear thinking about.

I would have thought hardly any, the Conservative party has always been the party of the landlord.
And cunts come in all colours of the political spectrum.
