Emleton's replacement and team for Saturday?

Mitchell in place of Embleton
Reinstate Turts as Gabriel can cover attacking positions
Do not have all defenders on bench even if it means blooding youngsters in a crunch match

A few options.
Mitchell an obvious one who deserves more starts.
Turton in, push Gabriel forward ( he was poor defensively last night).
Really missed Turton last night ( but rested for Sunderland?)
Husband in, push Garbutt up.
Kaikai in a more roving role. He struggled last night, as did everyone!

Garbutt is a midfield player who can play LB. He should push Kaikai into the centre, Garbutt on the left and Ward on the right. Whoever plays at RB will have McGeady to contend with.

Someone who is prepared to carry the ball forwards. One of our best moves last night was when - with all the passing options covered by Accy - Embleton carried the ball through them and set up a good move on the left. I think we need more of that because, if you can get past a player or two, the rest of the defensive covering begins to crumble.

How did we miss him? Out of curiosity?

Attacking wise? No, he's useless going forward. He's put about 4 good crosses in across the season. Not scored either.

We had a clean sheet.

He can see a good pass into midfield, or, can carry the ball into midfield and set up a good forward move. His vision is very good.

I would certainly keep Gabriel in as, in my opinion, he is a better threat when going forward.
Turton is very versatile indeed so could he slot straight in to replace Embleton ?
Yates must be getting very frustrated now and I just have a feeling he will score 2 or 3 goals in a match.
I believed that was going to happen last night but unfortunately it didn’t.
Roll on Saturday.

Wonder why there is this negativity towards Robson (who would seem like a pretty obvious choice to me).

We need to drop this 4-4-2 rubbish at home especially without Embleton. We have won 1 game out 7 playing 4-4-2 at home. It's dire at home.

Bring Robson and Mitchell in and drop Simms. We might as well try something different.

Maxwell
Turton-Ballard-Gretarsson-Garbutt
Ward-Dougall-Robson
Mitchell-Yates-Kaikai

You have to fit your best players into the team at some point which would mean playing with a back 3 with Garbutt/Gabriel made for a wing back role.

Maxwell

Ekpiteta/Ballard/Viking

Gabriel Dougall Ward Garbutt

Kaikai
Yates Simms

Not sure it's the time to be experimenting with formation, whatever we did against Gillingham it worked and I wouldn't be dropping Simms either.

So I'd go
Maxwell
Turton Ballard Viking Garbutt
Gabriel Dougall Ward Kaikai
Yates Simms

Gabriel and Turton could double upon McGeady if neccessary (if he plays on that side) and we'll have to keep an eye on Wyke in the middle.

Mitchell could be used if Kaikai decides not to turn up

Mcgeady/wyke will provide tough opposition, the tough decision is do you spend too much time worrying about them and not enough worrying what we’re doing. A good balance will be required. Glad I’m not a coach.

Gillingham is the only win in 7 home games playing 4-4-2. Surely that's a reason to 'experiment' with a formation? 4-2-3-1 isn't an experiment in any case. We improved massively in the second half against Burton and produced a cracking performance against Posh. This is why I find it very strange that Critchley stuck with 4-4-2 against Accy for the full 90 mins. It was obvious early on that the performance was just a carbon copy of all those other draws at home.

In my opinion, we need to improve at home otherwise we won't make the play-offs. I doubt we can keep this fantastic away record up as nice as it would be.

I was thinking the same, we made some headway agaisnt accy when we ran at them. Mitchell is that sort of player so I thought it would have been worth putting him on against them in the second half.

Totally agree with you, maybe a bit harsh on Simms but the 4 4 2 is hit and miss.
I'd go with
Maxwell
Gabriel Ballard Gretarrsson Garbutt
Dougall Robson
Ward Kaikai Mitchell
Yates

I think I'd go without Simms and play Mitchell and Robson - save Simms for Rochdale where we should be able to exploit their defensive weaknesses.
