Sullay Kaikai appreciation thread

Yep, I've been a critic due to his inconsistency but this freer role is allowing him to express himself and as said he's probably on his best run of form since joining.

He's our most skillful player on the ball.
He is our most inconsistent player
He has magic feet
He disappears from games
He scores great goals
He doesn't score enough goals
He is capable of playing at a higher level
He is capable of playing at a higher level for small parts of the game
You can't leave him out of the starting 11
Luv him

I think playing Garbutt has allowed him to come inside more because let's face it he ain't a left winger and the closer he is to Yates the better.

He`s been something of an enigma but Critchley has shown great faith in him when some have not and that now seems to be paying dividends.Time will tell but it may be that his manager`s handling of him has made a significantly positive difference.Long may that continue.

I have said all along he is easily the most technically gifted player at the club but has struggled to have a consistent impact wherever he has been before including at Blackpool and this is perhaps why he has ended up in League one.
Critchley, like Klopp his old boss, seems to be able to improve players and KaiKai is now starting to achieve his true potential.
I've always liked him but he is certainly a better player in the second half of this season than ever before, great stuff!

Hmmm, a curates egg...

On his day, he's our most creative player, and yesterday was one of those days. I also thought he put in the work defensively against a decent side.

Should he do it more often? Probably, but he's in League One for a reason. If he was on top of his game every week he'd still be at Crystal Palace showing Wilfreid Zaha how to do it.

I personally don't think he's developed, he just hasn't been played in position for the majority of the season. He clearly wasn't comfortable out wide and is much better suited to a more central role.

Yates looked lost as a winger in a front three, and now looks shit hot in a more central striker role. Gabriel who is a Right Back when played at Right Midfield looked a little lost yesterday, a change you'd think wouldn't be too different to his normal role - he was obviously brought on to help Turton in defensive duties but the few moments he got the ball he looked nowhere near as comfortable as he normally does.

Kaikai on form is the sort of player that gets you promoted. He has that special something, and that special something is allowed to shine through when he's playing more as a no. 10.

Gifted player, always had time for him, amazing what a difference it makes playing him where he is good.

We have one or two like this, Mitchell too is so much better attacking than full back, as above, Jerry in the sniffer's role has blossomed.

I really don't see with the Current team and formation where you use Madine, unless it is holding on to a lead for the last 10.

The people who were criticising him were idiots

Some people were actually saying we should get rid in the summer

Its all to do with giving creative players freedom to express themselves and now he has he looks quality

No shock to me that he's playing so well

You could say some who criticised many things this season may have been a tad hasty but that's another story.

It is either Madine or Simms, personally prefer Simms as much more mobile and maybe if we got promoted one to buy.

Rated him as a technically gifted player straight away, granted he could be frustrating in early games but last few matches with the freedom to roam he’s showing what he’s about, plus gaining confidence to boot. Some of the criticism he’s received on here has been nothing short of pathetic and almost childlike at times.

Since being given a more flexible role & looking more comfortable?
Not a left winger!
Just like Ward isn't a right winger!
Took time to realise tho?

Sullay has obvious talent, I think the frustration is how often he produces an end product. His best performances are normally reserved to when he is allowed a more fluid role and as with most players when his confidence is high. Hopefully Critchley has picked up on this as we need a fully focused Kaikai for the remainder of the season.

He's smooth as silk on his day and thankfully his days are coming more often now. Gifted player and well done to Critch for the way he's handled the situation.

Who doubted him? People were fed up of how inconsistent he was and rightly so. Let's not re-write history here.

If he performs week in week out, he's a Championship player. But you can't have 1 good game in 12 at League One standard.
Re-write history, are you joking. You go trawl the nonsense that was typed in match threads, he got slaughtered.

You‘ve even questioned him in your post - one good game in 12!

As with Jerry, fans far too quick to jump on him, when much of the problem was how we set up and how he was asked to play.

Exactly this.i actually questioned his attitude on the pitch as well,it was only a few games ago he was trying to wrestle the ball off Garbutt to take a free kick then pulling a sulk when he didn't get his own way,now when he's on it i doubt there's many better in the league and his most recent form has been brilliant to see so lets hope it continues because we need him to carry it on now until the end of the season.

I've been one of his biggest critics but despite that everytime he's stepped on the pitch I've wanted him to prove me wrong.
He's that player that has a golden touch and if you get a few of those touches from him each game he can be a match winner. He's done that recently and all credit to him.
But he still frustrates me because with his talent I want more.
Well done though Sullay.

Sung his praises from the first time I saw him play and never changed my position. The best footballer we have at the club and we should be doing all we can to get him to sign a nice new 3 year contract extension.

Are you telling me he's had better than 1 good game in the first half of this season? I think you're talking rubbish tbh. He got rightly criticised for performances consistently not good enough. And part of that is out of frustration at how good we know he is. And he didn't even reach half of what was expected of him.

I’m telling you that you need to understand his performances were largely due to how we were set up, the players around him and the role he was given. Plenty of us identified that, and that he needed the shackles off. That’s now happening, and we are getting the best from our most talented player.

No player with his ability would thrive with the style of football we were playing. It was dour and now it’s not.

Still played massively short of expectations. He was given licence albeit less earlier in the season. And could have played better. We didn't play dour football at the start of the season either, we just weren't creative. We battered Plymouth and lost. He played well against Swindon but after that it's hard to say when else he did.

There is no way on this planet Critch has suddenly said "Oh you can roam a bit more now and be more creative lad". I agree with a change of system but no chance he wasn't given freedom earlier in the season. He was lazy at times, unmotivated and had zero confidence. Now is the complete opposite.

All about opinions pal, so we‘ll have to disagree on this one.

He has absolutely been given more license to roam in a more central attacking position. As a left of four mid he had defensive duties to adhere to.

He's playing pretty much exactly the same position as he has all season.

Biggest difference for me in this side. He would have ballooned his goal in to row Z had this been earlier in the season.
