Best bass guitar player of all time..

Flea from the Chilli Peppers. Also a great songwriter too to go with some searing funky bass riffs.

Always thought Mani from the Stone Roses should have got more attention - many of their songs lead on his bass riff before JS makes the guitar song over the top.

Geezer Buttler is good, Black Sabbath bass lines integral to the sound
Barry Adamson of Magazine a nice funky flange bass on many tracks
Lemmy had his own unique sound
JJ Burnel as mentioned above again was integral to the Stranglers

TBH - 'best' bass player is like saying what is the best meal - I like lots of things almost equally because they are so different but all bring pleasure

John Entwistle - best rock and most influential to his rock successors.

Jaco Pastorius - most creative - some of his jazz solos are too far out for me, but I liked his work with Joni Mitchell on "Hissing of Summer Lawns."

Another one for Jack Bruce, Lemmy , and JJ , but this is only my opinion with the limited knowledge that I have.

Best bass player by a million miles and I can't find a video of his best one,
but this is still bloody good.

For the best rock violinist see the link below this one.⬇

3:15 to 5:00 for violin solo

For lead guitar I always liked Bill Nelson.

Saw a house band in Prague a few years ago & their bass player was incredible, it was like an extension of his arm.

No surprise that John Entwistle gets plenty of mentions but I think Carol Kaye and Bootsy Collins certainly deserve some credit too. Also Charlie Mingus for any Jazz fans.

Further to my earlier post - also a mention to John Deacon.

Not always the flashiest of bass players, but importantly understood his role in the band & locked in with Roger Taylor to provide a solid rhythm section, which is really what it’s all about in many bands.

Also understood that sometimes less is more. Similarly, John McVie.
