Hull City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 16.01.21

The most positive and uplifting post we'll get this evening....how many pints!?
If we look at it clearly, we won’t play as badly as at the start of the season in the second half of the season, more points will then be gained. We will I think improve as the season goes on more points again gets us in the play offs.

Its easy to forget where we are in the season. Normally, mid January and eight points off the Play Offs you'd say forget it, but there's 25 games to go, and still time in the transfer window to improve areas needing it.

Today wasn't perfect we can all see that, but look at the next three League games. Northampton, Wigan and Burton, and were still in the Cup.

There's worse things going on in the world.

I hope he’s looking at more than just the 1 or 2 he stated in the gazette. I’d bring 2 new wingers in because those two today weren’t good enough. I’m really willing Lubala to do well but I just can’t see a player there? And Kaikai is beginning to piss me off, he looks disinterested. 2 wingers and another attacking midfielder and we won’t be far off.

performance wasnt pleasing on the eye but a point here is not too shabby.
I think critch has had enough time to know which players are driftwood and need shipping out.
If he really thinks we can make it to the play offs...some midfield creativety is needed and a proven goalscorer is a must.
nothing wrong with the 442 system....just some of the personal hes brought in are just not up to it.

UTMP
I'm afraid too many mistakes were made in last summer's recruitment.

Your list of players who you think are shit and useless is narrowing a bit at least 62.

Preston, Burnley and Fleetwood all lost and Bolton drew with Cheltenham so not the worst Saturday!
I really don't give two shits what any other team has done unless they're playing Blackpool.
What they've done today has absolutely no effect on Blackpool's position in league one (apart from Cods)

Think you might be in the minority there mate, I can imagine lots of ours fans give two shits if Preston lose or not

Still think that is lack of goals scored by all players that is tripping us up not particularly defensive frailties.
I think Mitchell is the only defender to have scored a league goal, and I see him as a winger not a full back.
Midfield goals are also a rarity,

It was utter shit. Without CJ we have no threat down the wings and the front two are starved off the ball, which makes for turgid watching

I think Garbutt and Mitchell are worth a start even though they aren't the best defenders.

Give over with that crap will ya. Just give us a constructive post

I don't give a toss unless they're in our division - neither do they.
Again, I believe you are in the minority. I'm sure you're almost completely incorrect about Preston giving a toss about our results unless they're in our division, did the Nobbers remain silent when we lost to United on the last day of the Premier League season because we weren't in their division and it had no direct implication to them as a football club?

Preston are our main rivals, every loss they concede takes them another step further away from getting promoted. You can find a thread about Preston losing (if it happens) every Saturday, you can have a gander right now and find a thread about Preston losing and a thread about Bolton dropping points. Football fans revel in the misfortunes of their rivals, if you claim to have absolutely no interest in them unless we're in the same division then that is your opinion but I doubt its shared by most fans.

On paper a 1-1 draw at Hull looks good but I think it only papers over the cracks. The last four aways performances have just about finished off our play off hopes. The constant recycling of the ball backwards even from half decent midfield positions.

No wonder we don't score goals. Nobody running down the channels - If you're playing two up top then it's crucial. Both Madine and Yates always come short so the best we can expect is a free kick, but even that route to goal seems to have died recently due to the pass being too high or too low or not even reaching them. Occasionally Madine controls and lays off then the process starts again. It's like watching a slow ship creeping out of the harbour. Hamilton (when fit) has to play down the middle, we'd be far more dynamic.

I don't know about Kaikai, will he come good again?..who knows?? He looks a beaten man right now.
Equally I find Matty Virtue so frustrating. He comes on and just about every commentator 'on cue' "Matty is usually the man to get you a critical goal" Oh really?? Matty came on and proceeded to give gave the ball away three times under no pressure. Then fouled an opponent twice due his lack of pace. Whats really frustrating about that is.. we were a man up with the clock ticking!!

Corners - mostly still not clearing the first man!

It's not all bad, but the truth is only 5/6 players (we own) are anything like a top 8 team. At least the bulk are still young.

Maxwell 6 Turton 6 Ekpiteta 6 Ballard 6 Husband 5 Ward 6 Dougall 6 Lubala 5 Madine 5 Yates 6 Kaikai 4

Virtue 4
Woodburn 4

Yawn, not interested about most fans.

I'll take a point today but we need to up our game. Just looked at league table and it's disappointing to see where we are. Oxford are above as now. The Northampton game is a big one now and anything less than a win will consign us to a mid table finnish. I know there's a lot of games left but we haven't got enough fire power to get into the playoffs. Only hope we too some business in transfer window to ignite our season.

Right 62, I'm on the record about us being poor today. So, come on, what do we need to put it right? Not generalisations about Critchley being shit. What is needed?
It's not rocket science. Let's have quality over quantity in future. Stick with 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 as necessary. Bring in a creative midfielder, another pacy winger and a goalscorer. Cut out unnecessary tinkering and play your best 11 as often as possible, take the game to the opposition and let them worry about us rather than become unduly worried about them.

Think you missed out the 0. before Lubalas 5.

I think that if Critchley could play his best 11 he would. CJ Hamilton would be in it.

Easy to add to it....Fojticek, Howe, Thorniley, Sarkic, Woodburn (going?) Kemp (gone) Mitchell (jury out?).
Howe and Thorniley not Critchleys
Men, Sarkic hasn’t worked out it happens, Fojticek brought in on a relative apprentice contract could still be a star of the future. Woodburn is a good player for this level not happened for whatever reason could still do. Kemp has left the building freeing up a space was worth a look at, Mitchell still has a future ahead of him.

Maxwell 7
Turton 5.5
Marv 6.5
Ballard 7
Husband 5.5
Ward 7.5
Dougall 7
Lubala 5
Madine 8
Yates 7
Kai Kai 4

Mitchell has a future but I doubt it will be with us...he must be seriously pissed off at the lack of chances he has had.

Woodburn 4 ? Came on, clean through for the sending off and crossed for the goal !!
Postives, decent first half, centre backs good again, even with injuries with players like , Gabriel, Garbutt and Virtue can make a difference of the bench, we got a point away to 2nd in the league.
Negatives, fans always have to have a scapegoat and it looks like it's KaiKai's turn. He isn't playing well and has struggled for a while, but he has the ability to do something others can't.
I'd have settled for a point and in the end we got one. Underserved, but of you think we're going to Hull and dominating the ball and game, you're in cloud cuckoo land.
