Did Lavery/Virtue match their potential?

Always thought these two players would sit comfortably in the Championship. Should have both been Yates type players we could have sold on. Did injuries dog them or did we not make the best of them?

Both, for me. I had huge expectations of Virtue but his persistent injuries meant that he didn't get a good run in the team. Lavery, less so. We did see glimpses of what he could do but not enough to warrant his retention.

No I don't think we really saw the realization of potential of either one sadly. Injuries definitely a part of that in both cases IMO.

After a great start, just never really happened for Lavery consistently, so while in a way sad to see him go, as I loved his work rate and tenacity, and if fit consistently that might've carried him through for a decent career with us, but alas didnt happen. I think there are more intelligent strikers to be found so maybe for the best for all parties to start again.

Virtues development has been hampered by injury no doubt. Hope he does well somewhere new.

Lavery had a good first few games/months whatever it was but after that first injury, truth be told he has been poor. Whether that is confidence, position, fitness who knows really and I suppose it doesn't really matter. The fact was that he was just poor. A shame certainly cos he seemed to work hard but it's absolutely the correct decision.

Virtue, I don't think I ever really saw anything from him to make me think he was good enough bar the odd long shot. He's like a few of our players tbf. He seems to run around a bit but actually offers the team very little. Again the right decision for me.

Virtue’s done very well out of the club for the past 6 or so years.even his mate Critchley knew it would be taking the piss offering him another deal.talk about helping an old friend out.so slow and telegraphic.nothing personal against the lad and all the best to him but not for me as a footballer.

never thought Virtue was good enough certainly at championship level. Had hopes for Lavery but ultimately just don't think he's good enough either although to be fair to him like the rest of our strikers has been starved of decent service.

Lavery seemed to have a balance issue, getting knocked over to the floor a lot. Virtue was touted as a box to box player but his scoring record has been poor for a midfielder so he hasn't managed to live up to his billing.

Never really got Virtue tbh. I never expected much from him because I never saw the potential in the first place. Seems a good lad so good luck to him.
Lavery I’ll be honest I was onboard the fanfare around him early on but he’s just been stop start ever since. Injured, out of form, starts coming into a bit of form, injured again. He lacks confidence, when he’s running at defences he’s almost waiting for them to tackle him and his finishing has gone down the pan. Needs a fresh start desperately.

No bad feelings for virtue but for critch to bring him on when losing to reading when we needed to win... was an absolute disgraceful decision... esp when we took emmerson but then never brought a striker on...baffling but not surprising with critch in charge

Crichleys game management is horrendous. He makes changes on how he thinks the game will go as opposed to how it is going.

Would like to thank them both for their work with the club. It’s a shame their injuries held them back from what could have been successful times with us.

I think they are best moved on now and good luck to theme

Both of them were hamstrung (no pun intended) by injuries and never really got more than a few games in. It's a shame. I liked them both but it was becoming obvious that neither were trusted to stay fit and in Virtue's case, after starting 30 odd games last year, to start just 3 this must have been frustrating.

Not sure if it was confidence or fitness but the last few months did Lav's no favours. The amount of times he got in a decent position only to be bundled off the ball or screw his shot cost us on quite a few occasions.
