Vandalism, an architectural masterpiece reduced to dust!Of all the pics I've posted on the thread the ones that have got the most likes have been the Derby Baths...So here is one of the interior in it's prime. View attachment 5697
I remember the grafiti on the boarding outside when it was being demolished "Back strokes not Back handers"So many rumours as to why....suffice to say we lost a magnificent resource and amenity for the town not to mention an architectural gem.
Like the fellah here is about to...and then the sound of everyone wincing, when that somebody did a belly flop.
He never looked any different.A young Allan Brown, one of my favourite managers.

I think the pool was in imperial yard measures and needed extending to modern metric system. That was the excuse to close it.Derby Baths. An Olympic swimming pool, were the council earning or doing acid
These colourised pictures are great. I really want one of Morty's tracksuit that was posted a while ago.
This should've been the statue outside the West Stand.
It was bollocks.I think the pool was in imperial yard measures and needed extending to modern metric system. That was the excuse to close it.
Who is The King ?These Geordies must have been gutted when the King left to join the Mighty.View attachment 5688

I take back my statement and I apologise. It is it's from the history of Newcastle United and is a young Alan Suddick in 1966 outside St James's
Edit to add the actual date of the photo is 1st October 1965
I imagine that was the face that greeted the players on the rare occasion of a home defeat. No words! One of the best, what a man.

No problem mate.I take back my statement and I apologise.
Looks nothing like Alan Suddick, check out the hairstyle and nose. I think it is Ron McGarry who played for Newcastle at the same time as Suddick. These Geordies must have been gutted when the King left to join the Mighty.View attachment 5688
Never seen that picture before.
It is definitely not a young Alan Suddick who was only 21 in Oct 1965, it is an older player, Ron McGarry I think who was 27 in Oct 1965. Loved walking along there before the match and at half time in the late 1950s to the Blackpool FC programme shop/stall on the left hand side where I would spend all my pocket money buying Blackpool home programmes. I had hours of enjoyment reading them from cover to cover.Under the West, if only we had smelly vision.

Get your self down to Specsavers, this photo looks nothing like The King, check out the Newcastle United 1965/66 squad photo, I think it is Ron McGarry.I take back my statement and I apologise.
The hairstyle threw me but that was taken from Newcastle 's own pages. It also crops up on line under Newcastle fans. See for yourself it actually gives the date as being 1st October 1965. Alan Suddick signing autographs for young Newcastle fans. I can't believe they would get it wrong. I d like to see confirmation from any Newcastle fans around that time before dismissing it.It is definitely not a young Alan Suddick who was only 21 in Oct 1965, it is an older player, Ron McGarry I think who was 27 in Oct 1965. I am surprised we are still discussing this, that photo you put up is 100% not Alan Suddick, google “ images Alan Suddick Newcastle United “ and check it out for yourself. Suddick always had a flat hairstyle and his face looks nothing like this player. Suddick was a hero of mine frm Dec 1966 when I went to all the Blackpool home and away games well into the 1970s and I spent hours at the Squires Gate training ground, Suddick’s memory is indelibly printed on my brain. Don’t wait for Newcastle fans, you can also check out images of Suddick when he joined Pool in 1966, it was only just over a year after this Newcastle photo was taken. The hairstyle threw me but that was taken from Newcastle 's own pages. if you Google young Alan Suddick that pic even comes up. Try following it through and see where it takes.
You won’t have because it is not Alan Suddick.Never seen that picture before.

FFS you still going on, I wish I'd never bothered. I've contributed in all faith after seeing the photo in book form and on two Newcastle sites all saying it's Alan Suddick. You won’t have because it is not Alan Suddick.
The one thing you can be sure of is that Pool fans like myself who watched Alan Suddick, the King of Bloomfield Road, from the age off 22 when he first signed for Pool in Dec 1966 and then he stayed for 10 years I would recognise him in the pitch dark and as for Suddick Bender I think he should change his user name.FFS you still going on, I wish I'd never bothered. If it isn't surely you'd think their fans would have questioned it and got it changed. I've shared a lot of stuff I've come across researching Pool. I love the history of the club but I'd better be careful about sharing anything in future in case the source has it wrong and I get the earache.

No fair enough you've obviously seen the "King" more often than me but those sources are pretty misleading if they aren't accurate. Same as if I post a picture of Hampson or Morty all I can do is relate to where I've got it from. I may put the link to Geordie fans to see if they can throw a light on exactly who the mystery man is.The one thing you can be sure of is that Pool fans like myself who watched Alan Suddick, the King of Bloomfield Road, from the age off 22 when he first signed for Pool in Dec 1966 and then stayed for 10 years would recognise him in the pitch dark and as for Suddick Bender I think he should change his user name.
I googled the Newcastle United squad photo from the 1965/66 season and looked very closely at each of the players on the squad photo in 1965/66. I am sure that the player described as Alan Suddick is in fact Ron McGarry who was the centre forward for Newcastle that season. Ron’s nickname was Cassius because he kept telling his fans he was the greatest. No criticism of yourself was ever intended and if I came over that way I apologise but I couldn’t sit back and ignore one of my all time Blackpool heroes and The King of Bloomfield Road being mistaken for somebody else.No fair enough you've obviously seen the "King" more often than me but those sources are pretty misleading if they aren't accurate. Lol about the username good lad though.
No it's fine mate, Suddick became a hero of mine too though I didn't see his early days in Tangerine. One of my first matches was his wonder goal in the Anglo Italian. I've never seen a better goal since. It's social media mate. If someone disagrees with you then prepare to be annihilated..FFS you still going on, I wish I'd never bothered. I've contributed in all faith after seeing the photo in book form and on two Newcastle sites all saying it's Alan Suddick.
