Is there a worse website than the Gazette.

I honestly give up with this shit website. While i was reading the player ratings, i was told three times, that this is my last free article of the week. Also the journo that covers Blackpool FC is a Lincoln fan. Poor, poor paper these days.

It’s shit but it’s also the same as all the other websites in the parisitic newspaper conglomerate that owns the Gazette. If any local businessmen wants to emulate the sainted Mr Sadler and do something positive for the town they could do a lot worse than buy The Gazette and run it for the benefit of the community, instilling some civic pride and acting as a much-needed watchdog on local institutions.

Will you still be moaning when it gets shut down along with the website and you can’t find any news re BFC elsewhere in the media because the nationals don’t give a shit about football at our level.

no not really. Maybe then, the Lincoln fan will go and write about Lincoln.

I agree the website can't count up to five, but Matt Scrafton is an excellent football journalist. If you can't see that then you know nothing about football.

It is awful. More a sign of the times than the quality of the journalism (Matt Scrafton is very good and has adopted the Pool as Steve Canavan did.)

With papers themselves making no money, the online content has to be monetised heavily and the focus is on generating "hits" for advertisers. The quality suffers massively as a result.

It's industry-wide but Johnstone Press who own the Gazette have done a particularly poor job of keeping up with the times. Their sites are barely readable.

I like Scrafton, he's a good football journalist and writes well about the 'Pool - it might be a good thing that he isn't an out-and-out Blackpool fan as it means he can write objectively, and sometimes weather our passion fuelled opinions.

It is unfortunate he has to write through the Gazette website which is ** AWFUL, I hate it. 5 free articles a week, its already riddled with advertisements and it always logs you out so you have to log back in - I don't bother most the time, even with knowing the ways around the annoyance such as an adblocker and opening it with an incognito browser.

I also think the website is completely dire. It tries every trick in the book to get you to accidentally click on an adert. With the official website and social media communications from the club at a professional standard, combined with forums like the mighty AVFTT and it's band of keyboad warriors to provide us with our 'pub chat', I see no role for a conglomerate owned local newspaper providing us with Blackpool FC info. TKL makes a very good follow up point that there could well be a role for a community based local paper with a user friendly informative website. As for Matt Scrafton, I've got no problem with him being a Lincoln fan. It's a club at our current level and he has genuine interest in football. He was also sympathetic to our cause during the tail end of the dark years as Stu99 reminded us...

i totally agree that he does but for me personally, i would rather have a journo that has the love and passion that we as fans share for Blackpool fc, not have it for another team but just write about ours. This post was just to point out how the gazette is crap overall.

You don’t think someone with better web design, fewer legacy costs, bit more local nous could actually make money out of doing what The Gazette is supposed to do? Naive

I've no problem with Matt Scrafton but the website is terrible. It has out of date content, articles duplicated plus poor navigation on the site. I would like to know how many subscribers they've got. Not a patch on The Green😊

I wouldn't praise the website but I don't subscribe and I honestly think that it would be far from the worst if I did subscribe and was able to move around it freely.

Don't get me started on the printed newspaper though, 95p per day and for very little content.

It seems that many newspaper companies not just the group that owns the Gazette are perfectly happy to just keep increasing the cover price as people move to the internet and circulation drops.

Don't even get me started on the Racing Post - £3.90 on a Saturday but that's another story.

Despite knocking the Gazette, I must defend Matt Scrafton, he is nice young lad and passionate about his job and I bet he'd be willing to discuss any issues anybody had regarding his papers coverage of the mighty and certainly his input to that coverage.

I'm not sure why it matters that he supports Lincoln, do we want a lessor journalist who just happens to love the Mighty or has a convenient back story.

So for me they can just beef up the print version and Scrafton says.

Being a Blackpool fan is not a prerequisite for the job, nor should it be IMO. It's good to have non-biased and non-partisan viewpoint and he's well-qualified (and a recent Football Journalist of the Year winner at NW Football Awards).

Not going to argue with your point on the Gazette, however!

Sad thing for Matt is I haven't picked up a copy of the Gazette in years and I get all the news I need off his twitter feed.

not at all, your totally missing the point but it is you so i can understand.
Not missing the point at all I agree it's crap but you did moan about this is your last free article popping up of course it does as do many other online papers they want your money.

Scrafton is decent enough but it will be a sad day if we lose local journalism if it went under however rubbish the website is.

Best journo the gazette has was Steve Canavan.

95p, is that how much it is these days? i remember when it was 35p.

Moaning tight fisted gits.
As mentioned pay the small monthly subscription.
We will miss it if it folds. Not just Football either.

Scrafto gets slated just like Canavan and others did.

It wasn’t many years ago when we were waiting outside our local newsagents for the Gazette van to arrive.

if the gazette was run properly and was worth paying the money i would without hesitation. The problem is its not worth it.

Gave up on the Gazette a couple of years ago when they started charging.

LancsLive is free and carries all the same stories. Quite a good little free news site.

The paper is a quid now,its yesterdays or the day before news. Its shit apart from memory lane on Fri. The website is as bad.

Gave up on The Gazette ages ago. Not because of Scrafton but the constant interruptions of your reading. Lancashire Telegraph & Bury Times are better but I have no interest in their content.

There are signs that Matt Scrafton is turning tangerine. 🍊🍊 Look at these tweets from yesterday.

The real test will come when we beat Lincoln in the play-off final. 😄

I'd be happy to pay something like a couple of quid a month just to get emails with all the BFC stories from the Gazette so I could read them without having to use the website. Surprised they haven't considered separating the content from the website and charging small amounts to offset the advertising. I don't want to read any other Gazette news so wouldn't consider a full subscription. I like Matt Scraftons reports - as well as decent content - compared to my local paper they are well written, grammatical and have correct spellings.

You'll find that Critchley didn't grow up as a Blackpool fan. These are professional people doing their job.

95p, is that how much it is these days? i remember when it was 35p.

So, when it was 35p did you pay for it every day or stand in the newsagents and read it for free.

It was automatic in the pre internet era to buy it almost every day. We had it delivered and it kept paper boys in employment for years. The monthly subscription in todays money is probably a lot less than the equivalence of 35p every day, but it suits the modern agenda to complain if its not free and served up in front of you on a plate. Moan moan moan.

Scrafton is good. He won a journalistic award last year. Good luck to him.

I remember being at the 2007 end of season awards night the week after we’d beaten Yeovil.

Canavan had won some award for something or other, as he walked up to the main stage the whole room burst into a chant of, Canavan, copy and paste, copy and paste. Canavan copy and paste, copy and paste. To the tune of “Premier league your Avin a laugh”. It was piss funny and just shows you even 15 years ago on the eve of the social media era, people thought it was shite.

I don't get that site. Am registered and yet it still won't let me read more than 2 articles a week. Am I meant to pay for it or is it just utterly flawed?

Mixed views on this. Firstly, the criticism of Matt Scrafton is pretty puerile. If the best you can do is that he supports another team, you really are scraping the barrel. I'd also say that his writing is of a higher quality than that of a lot of his detractors.

I think it is poor newspaper these days, but I'd blame the owners for that, in the main. Their commitment to regional reporting (or lack of it) was exposed for all to see at the time of the VB/KO court case.

Is there a worse website than the Gazette? Yes, the LEP - it's got all the same problems but you have to read about PNE - much, much worse!

Scrafton would do well to get an account on here and join in the banter. Over-reliance on Twitter these days (which I got rid of) and arguably a few links from here to his Gazette stuff would get more readers.
