Ellis Simms

My Everton contact - if your in the market for a young striker he is one of the best out there, your coach (Critch) is brilliant and Everton are delighted he will be taught by him.
My Everton contact isn't as effusive in his praise of Simms. Talented but can be a tad lazy.

It's mental how people line up to have an opinion on everything. If the club posted a picture of a pint of lager on twitter, some people would wear blind it was flat, whilst other insisted it was obviously fresh and fizzy!

We'll see if it's a good move or not. As it is, it's definitely a player in a position we need so there we go. Can't complain, can't get carried away.

*most boring post ever*

I'll wait and see, good luck to the lad and welcome to the Pool. Looking forward to seeing him play.

How people on here can write him off is staggering but not unexpected. It does make you wonder what goes on in some peoples minds.
First part spot on. Second, less so.

Nobody is writing him off. Some are mindful of the step up and how difficult that can be.

So hope for the best, but be realistic. History tells us to do that.

In fact, if I was in a bad mood and really grrrring, I'd say why do fans always think the sun shines out of every new signing's arse. How many are successful. I can remember people on here praising the signing of Devitt 'he's first team Carlisle, when did we last....', people praising Nuttall as the best thing... people says Thorniley was a good signing an't Shefft Wed fans were shocked. Need I go on...

Let the lad show us what he can do, and good luck to him, if selected.

Some reports say he can be lazy and no left peg. Big jump to league1 but good luck to him.

Hi @62years&counting - just wondered about the other reports on Simms being 'lazy' and having 'no left peg'. Would you be able to share those multiple reports you mention? Though I tend to reserve opinion until watching someone play football, I'd be interested in reading more on him for the time being.

Or is it just one report and from your 'Everton contact'?

Can't keep signing duds in the striker department. One of them has got to come good. Let's hope its this lad.

I have quoted the opinion of an 'insider'.

Wasn't there a report of how he should be given first team chances there?

Well, he wasn't and is in L1. So let's leave the reports on the compost heap.

First things first, are we going to be able to give him a proper chance with a decent run of games, so question is where do we play him and in place of who? Hope it all works out but many of these loan signing don’t. Have heard it all before (just think Newcastle strikers we have taken on loan) not being negative but let’s not get carried away. Hope we are brave enough to give him that decent run of games he deserves, it’s not like we are free scoring.

We have no obvious back up for Yates and the Machine - we end up pushing one of the attacking midfielders in there when Yates has run himself into the ground.
Seems a sensible signing to me, hope the kid can make the transition

First of all it's good to see us trying to strenghten where we are clearly short.
I know absolutely nothing about Ellis but if his career progresses as successfully as Seamus Coleman's did, following his loan, then that will be brilliant (and I haven't forgotten Anthony Evans at the other end of the spectrum).
Ellis is only just 20 so I just hope that he proves that if you are good enough, you're old enough because I would like to also see Blackpool FC's own 20 year olds get their chance in the not too distant future.
#5for25.

I'm entitled to my opinion. I care not whether it offends young or old. Got it!
I made no judgement. Don't jump down my throat, I was simply advising Ghosts of Electricity that he needn't wait for the first 10 minutes of that meaningless friendly to elapse before our new loanee received criticism. You appear to have saved him the need to look out for it to happen.

He looks an exciting prospect and it’s interesting reading Everton’s forum about us as it looks like they have a soft spot for us after Coleman.

Interesting to also see that some of them think his contract is up at the end of the year so could it be 6 months of try before we buy?!

Welcome to the Seaside, young man.

Now, we had this lad called Seamus on loan a while ago. He did pretty well for us and went on to be quite good, so take your chance. Sorry we're not there to shout our support for you, but we'll all be shouting you on through our tellies. Oh, and ignore our whiners who revel in doom and gloom. UTMP
As Captain I wonder if Seamus has given young Ellis the heads-up and got him really wanting to perform.

Transfermarket says he's out of contract 31.05.2021.
Don't know how reliable this is.

He can prove me wrong. Kemp and Woodburn didn't, Gabriel hasn't as yet, Ballard definitely has.
I suspect his age (U21) and the cost of his services met the club's main criteria.

Exactly what I was thinking, I like you don’t know were he will play. I just hope he doesn’t get 15 minutes at the end of games if we are behind and Critchley expects miracles. He has to be given a fair chance to prove himself with a reasonable number of starts. Otherwise a) we won’t get the best from him and b) it wouldn’t be fair on the lad.

He is. And this is what gets my goat. Not intended at you by any stretch.

Posts saying their contact says he's ace and should be getting a chance in the 1st team, but he has 6 months left. Now I'm no Sherlock, well actually....

My contact in and around training says the reason why loans and step up FT players don't do so well is that they read this board and then they feel the pressure and buckle.

Good luck to the lad, but let him settle and go from there.

That's what I was doing Grump's. I have no idea what he'll be like, hopefully great, but he could be out of his depth. It's down to him. I should have said the same about all those who gush over anything Pool related but I can't stand people being so negative before he's even taken his shoes off, it's a far more depressing trait than being happy we have signed someone.

You’ve missed my point, I think.
You said Ballard proved you wrong, which points towards you saying all of them weren’t good enough when they joined.
Just an observation about consistent negativity, you’re entitled to your opinion.
Strange that my critics never come back to say I was correct re Kemp & Woodburn.

All you’ve done so far is say that all our loans would be rubbish. One has proved you wrong, one you’ve not decided on, and the other two have been let go.
We could agree that the released two didn’t improve the first team, but that gives you a 50% strike rate, you might as well just say every signing we get from here on in is a mistake, because at our level some signings will make it, some won’t, and you’ll keep hitting around the 50% mark.
I’d have been impressed if you’d said as they signed, Ballard will be good, Kemp and Woodburn aren’t good enough and you’re not sure yet about Gabriel.

Strange that my critics never come back to say I was correct re Kemp & Woodburn.
So how many times did you see these two play before they joined us to form that opinion?
I could guess very little, so basically it was just your constant negativity that came up trumps for you. Well done on that.
If you can't welcome a promising young lad to the club with a bit of hope and joy then what is the point? I don't know why you bother with Blackpool or with football.

I bet you wish Critchley had a 50% strike rate with his signings and that his forwards had a 50% strike rate.
I've said plenty this season and along the lines you mentioned. Whether it has impressed you or otherwise is of no interest to me. I have my views and you have yours and that's how it is and should be.

No problem. You strike me as someone who doesn’t care what people think of your opinions, nor care about theirs.
I just wonder what you get out of social media other than using it as a platform to say you know more than everyone else.

In many cases I do know more than most. I've never been afraid to express an opinion and never been one to sit on the fence. Like me or loathe me, it matters not. Too many snowflakes and sheep on here.

I don't know how you can properly judge any player this season from the one camera footage on ifollow.
For the record I would have kept Woodburn because I do believe there is a talented footballer that just needed a run of games. With the current injury list he possibly could have had that but unlike you I trust Critch has make the correct decisions.

...and your guess is incorrect. Up to you to guess why I bother with Pool or football...the clue is 62 years.

Agree, but my concern is are we going to be brave enough to drop Madine or Yates for a string of games to give him a decent run, or go for it and play 3 up front for enough games to see what he can do 🤔

Agree with that about Woodburn but I would think the player and LFC wanted him to start on a regular basis and Critch (quite rightly) couldn't promise that. I'd imagine Critch would have been happy for him to stay otherwise.

I can't imagine 62 years of negatively.
Enjoyed 1957 to 1966.
Miserable 1967 relegated.
Enjoyed 1968 to 1970
Miserable 1971 relegated
Enjoyed 1972 to 1977
Mĺiserable 1978 relegated.
Several highs and lows after that with promotion and relegation, trips to old and new Wembley and Millennium.
Promotion to Premier a major high, obviously. Relegation disappointing but not unexpected. Losing to West Ham a major low....as was relegation to league1.
Mainly negative from 2012 onwards!

Reading some of the posts on here has put me in a state of “disbelief”.
For years under the O’s I complained about “lack of ambition” now we have an owner who has signed an U23 coach from the current Premier League Champions, now we. sign a 21 year old striker on loan from a leading premiership club.........and still people moan and are cynical before the lads kicked a ball for TMP.
FFS STFU & give the lad a chance!!!........🚌#88
