Shrewsbury Town v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 29.12.20

We haven't played particularly well, but we've also done enough to have got a draw.
They got an iffy penalty decision in their favour, we didn't.
That's the only thing separating the teams.
The inevitable will happen on here after a narrow loss, a 1 nil away defeat will be judged like its the apocalypse.
It's just ** tiresome (not aimed at you).

We're not gonna win every game, we're not the finished article.
I'd agree with all of that bar the 'iffy penalty' bit. There was nowt iffy about it. He brought his man down in the box.

Uninspired tonight.

Only positive I can take is that we only lost due to a penalty. Other than that it was pretty dire all round

Goalie did very well, comes for the ball, commanding already, would love him permanently, he would give Maxwell a run for his money.

The rest didn't want it enough. Madine's tricks didn't work tonight, and for 60 minutes he had little support.

Done by another very experienced manager, hope NC is learning from all this

Personally feel that was the worst performance of the season. Struggled to string passes together, lost possession far too easily and played hopeless hoofball all game with no end product. Kai-Kai, Robson and Anderson were very very poor.
I’d like to see Williams back in the middle of the park as he’s not the most gifted central midfielder we have but brings balance to the team when played alongside Dougall and let’s him push and press further up the park.

On another day it may not have been given such is the standard of refereeing at this level..... just as Madine was wrestled to the ground in the second half but a penalty wasn't awarded.
Both could have been, or neither.

That was what separated the teams, literally.
But the reaction from some on here will be as if we've just been spanked 7 nil at home, with Critchley and the players being written off as garbage. It is embarrassing to read, and as per my earlier comment, utterly tiresome.

We have no cutting edge up front and Bez is not the answer

Bez hasn't had much time but he's not going to get it of he comes on and is so poor, bad touches etc.

Pitch wasn't easy but still we've seen him in small parts and he's done almost nowt.

Makes you wonder what was spotted in him or is it just confidence and not suited to how we play....

Shrewsbury have been very adept at seeing out narrow wins by a single goal and Critchley played right into their hands.
Disappointing.

That was a dreadful result which the performance deserved. Make no mistake, Shrewsbury are a very limited side with a very average defence, and we totally failed to test it in 90 mins.
We have no threat up front, we never give opposing defenders enough to think about, and on the rare occasion we fashion a chance we can't finish it.
19 goals in 19 games is miles away from what's required, and won't get you anywhere near the playoffs let alone automatic. Our forwards are sub standard and if not addressed in January a lot of people need to reassess their expectations this season, me included.
Not much else to say.
