O/T self defence

I know I could go on google, but wondered if anyone goes or have kids that go to self defence classes in Blackpool and surrounding areas and if anyone can suggest somewhere decent for my 9 year old lad and possibly myself? He is a bit overweight (as am I haha) and kids have been poking fun at him so his self esteem is low. Just think it may help him get fit and increase his confidence. Also no harm in knowing how to defend yourself. Thanks

The two best martial arts for self defense would be kickboxing and BJJ imo. I train at ITC on Dover Court, we have kids kickboxing lessons every Monday and Wednesday before the adult classes. Unfortunately we aren't doing BJJ classes at the moment but kids MMA classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday, no membership required you can just turn up. My advice would be to start him off with kickboxing then move into MMA over time, to learn more grappling and ground defense

Thanks for that. Where abouts is it? Is there any parent & child mix classes? As I think he would flourish with my encouragement
