New signing just announced Daníel Grétarsson

Seems very promising. I know loads of fans like myself have been expressing our concerns over the centre of our defence. Clearly Critchley had the same concerns and he's just gone about quietly sorting it out. Well done to him. And of course to Sadler for backing him.

Nowhere near old enough. And if he's not left-footed we're definitely getting relegated.

It might take time for him to learn the language, meet the players etc and really bond with the squad so don’t expect miracles straight away.

im expecting a Husband Ballard partnership for a few games (after his suspension), with Gretarsson eventually replacing Husband in the near future.

quote me one post that was calling for Critchley to be sacked as opposed to voicing concern he might not be up to the job
Even so, saying “he might not be up to the job” AFTER 4 GAMES is negative and is not what they need to hear or see.

He probably speaks English better tban most native English speakers.
Most of the Nordic countries do

English is their second language.

He’s in the wrong job for sure if he can’t take people being sceptical. I don’t recall reading any posts calling for his head. Just some voicing their concerns as to team selection, performances, organisation and particularly the substitutions he elects to make. All standard fare I would say.

Ive just watched a video of him. It didnt show much tackling but he has a cultured left foot, a bit like Charlie. He hits loads of accurate 40/ 50 yard passes out to the wings. Looks promising.

I watched forty five minutes of a game he played recently when I heard we were linked with him.He looks like he likes a tackle but he doesnt come out of them well.Often stayed down coming out of a challenge.Likes to ping it out to the right diagonal with the left foot.

Two really exciting young centre halfs that seem very hungry to impress, this is brilliant we need that hungry ball winning centre half definitley sure up the leaky ship concentrate on feeding CJ an Yates I think one game it's just going to click and we are going to give some poor team a good drubbing remember that 6-0 Ipswich game.... Oh how the mind ponders.... Happily will take a 1-0 like but just imagine

Does this mean we have to call of our games seeing he's getting in the Iceland squad.😀

As far as I'm aware, he played for the national team back in September last year and hasn't been called up for this next run of games (someone can correct me if I'm wrong), so he can play this weekend and for the foreseeable. Could change, mind, but good to go for now.

He was in the squad in December but didn't play, but played left centre back in a friendly against Canada on 15th January 2020, won 1-0.

Well pleased with this signing and the loan signing of Ballard. Hopefully a massive improvement now in the backline.

People were calling for him to go on Saturday.

A Viking and a Bollard - exactly what you'd want in the centre of defence. 🤓
But I'm not sure whether the Viking will be oven-ready. Stepping from that league to this is a big change, and it will be interesting to see whether he fits the bill. I think Ballard will be likely to hit the ground and get up and running more quickly. But we will have to see, it's very hard to predict.

I agree with you here, Voy. He's coming from the foot of the Norwegian league and a team on a shocking 20-game run of form, I think he'll need some time to bed in and worry with how quickly some of our fan base turn on players/managers - especially given the excitement around the signing.

I have a good feeling about Ballard. A big Gooner mate of mine was telling me he is a really exciting prospect having seen him play and is hoping for a breakout season from him. I think he'll be the one to hit the ground running.

Though, like you say, hard to predict - I haven't seen either play. We were crying out for some solidity in defence, though, and have two exciting signings, trust the process!
