I did a double take. That's not counting as a signing surely? It's Gary Madine he will do anything to stay !!
I dont think he'll keep Grimmy out of the side. His background doesn't suggest a number 2: 40 odd matches last season, supporters' player of the year, previous captain experience. It's also a 12 month contract but no mention of a further option on him. In his position I'd want to be challenging for the no. 1 shirt. Also, I'd want a decent contract period of 2/3 years. It's a strange one for me.
No, neither do I...which makes it all the more puzzling.I dont think he'll keep Grimmy out of the side.
I dont know about the coaching badges, but personality wise he's someone that gets alone with everyone. The Rochdale fans loved him and he always had time for them from signing autographs to giving out his gloves. He's also been captain so is a leader, I'm hoping he can help Grimmy progress.Do we know if he's down coaching badges and what sort of personality he is?
I ask because although he may be an adequate or good No 2, if he was someone who could take DG under his wing and mentor him, he'll prove to be very valuable.
We're gonna be paying him more than any league 2 club would and if he wants to be starting games then he would have to be league 2 or conference. So I'd say money is a motivating factor. His background doesn't suggest a number 2: 40 odd matches last season, supporters' player of the year, previous captain experience. Not really. Cheaper Maxi. Back up. Whats puzzling? No, neither do I...which makes it all the more puzzling.
The puzzle is why he'd go from a starter in most games to a No 2.Not really. Cheaper Maxi. Back up. Whats puzzling?
Money for starters. Plus coaching as apparently hes doing goalkeeper coaching badges. And moving up a division rather than down one from last season. The puzzle is why he'd go from a starter in most games to a No 2.
The intro to my post suggested as much, having seen the interview. Sometimes I wonder why I bother. The puzzle is why he'd go from a starter in most games to a No 2.
Money I can understand, but moving up a league not to play....not sure about that. Surely a player wants to play.Money for starters. Plus coaching as apparently hes doing goalkeeper coaching badges. And moving up a division rather than down one from last season.
I'm backing you up.The intro to my post suggested as much, having seen the interview. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
Well its a short career and Rochdale are brassic so he will prioritise money at this point in his career, as well as developing his next career.Money I can understand, but moving up a league not to play....not sure about that. Surely a player wants to play.
I know. I might have worded mine badly - soz. It's with Voyeur asking why it's a puzzle and me saying to my phone, "read what I've written!" and then I read yours.I'm backing you up.
I'm assuming developing his post playing career is a constant and not variable wrt divisional status.Well its a short career and Rochdale are brassic so he will prioritise money at this point in his career, as well as developing his next career.
From our POV maybe but from his I don’t understand it even if we are paying him more. Keepers can have quite a long playing career relatively speaking so unless he’s carrying some career shortening injury you would think he’d prefer to play regularly. But there again he could have other things going on.Not really. Cheaper Maxi. Back up. Whats puzzling?
The number 2 is often played in cup games etc, so should still get to represent BFC at a good level you'd think. Plus coaching and being part of a good squad, ready to push DG and cover also too. With goalkeepers you don’t usually swap & change tactically like outfield ones. They’re in until either injured or out of form. So with that in mind whoever is chosen when the season starts should stay in the team unless one of the above happens. He more than likely will have to wait his turn.
I’m sort of hoping he’s better than Grimshaw but that remains to be seen. Although Grimshaw is generally ok.The number 2 is often played in cup games etc, so should still get to represent BFC at a good level you'd think. I don't think he is, but I guess we'll see.I’m sort of hoping he’s better than Grimshaw but that remains to be seen. Although Grimshaw is generally ok.
Problem with DG is we've put his progress on hold. Hopefully he can now go and step up further. No disrespect to anyone but I'm hoping the new lad will really help Grimmy. Face value from me, but Banks doesn't seem to have helped him.I’m sort of hoping he’s better than Grimshaw but that remains to be seen. Although Grimshaw is generally ok.
